Frequently Asked Questions

What type of Arabic will I learn at naturalarabic.com? You will learn Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). This is the written language of all Arabic countries and the language used in most television and radio broadcasts.

I want to learn ECA (Egyptian colloquial Arabic). We don't teach Egyptian Arabic, although a lot of the vocabulary is the same between MSA and ECA.

Can I download the audio? I would like to play it on my mp3 player so I can listen to it while not on the computer. Yes, you can download the audio by right-clicking the icon in the "Listen" column on the articles page and choosing "save target as". You need to be logged in to do this. Alternatively, you can subscribe to our podcast in iTunes, to download all the mp3 files in one go. For details, look here.

Do you have many beginners articles similar to the ones on your free samples pages? The only articles we have for absolute beginners are those on our free samples pages. Our focus is on newspaper articles which vary from intermediate to advanced level. However, if you do eventually want to read Arabic newspapers, it would be useful to try to start reading them as soon as possible and our website would be able to help you with this.

Is there a printer friendly way to print out the articles? You can just print from your internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer or Firefox), after you have chosen your desired view (e.g. Blank v Arabic with Vowels) on the article page.

Is there a way to sort the articles by category? Yes, if you click on any of the headings above the list of articles, it will sort the articles per that heading. You can also press ctrl+F to search for keywords. There is a search/dictionary facility (at the top of the page) where you can search the body of all the articles.

Is the CDROM playable on a Macbook? Yes, our current version of the 2006 CDROM is Mac compatible.

Does the Natural Arabic CDROM/website run on an iPhone/iPad? The website does run on the iPhone/iPad using HTML5 audio. Unfortunately, because the Natural Arabic 2006 CDROM uses Flash, it doesn't currently run on the iPhone/iPad.
